Ambiance: It was incredible. They did a fantastic job of restoring it and yet making it very cozy and warm. They kept a lot of the memorabilia of the area and the actual historic building. The tables were nicely placed. There are no more than maybe 20 of them. They do have some, what seemed to be restored windows that were set up as privacy screens on either side of the restaurant for two separate tables to be somewhat secluded from the rest of the guests. The kitchen is open to the dinning area and it does make it a little louder than "fine dinning" but it is very clean and in my opinion beautiful (but I have a huge appreciation for well made cookware).
Service: When we arrived we were very welcomed by the Hostess. She was very interested in us and it didn't seem like a burden to her or that we just broke her boredom. We were immediately seated. Almost all of the tables were occupied, but there was no waiting (This was on a Saturday evening around 7:30pm). Our waitress was very friendly and did ask us what we would like to drink and if we wanted an appetizer, but we did have troubles with actually getting our items. She brought us our drinks promptly, and kept them full for the entire time that we were there. We didn't get our appetizer until just before our entree was served. She apologized but gave us no warning that our meal was coming out merely minutes after we started eating our chips and spinach artichoke dip. We were able to push the appetizer to the side while we ate our entrees but, it made it hard to eat because the tables weren't meant to have that many plates on them. There were more issues with our orders, my husband had ordered a steak that came with a salad and he never received it. My daughter also had ordered a hamburger that she specifically requested it have nothing but ketchup on it and onion rings. They managed to not put anything on it, but that was just it, they didn't put ANYTHING on it. We ended up having to ask the waitress for a bottle of ketchup twice before it was brought out. And, there wasn't any onion rings. They gave her fries, so they had to be replaced too.
Food: Our Order: Appetizer = Spinach Artichoke Dip
Drinks = Dr. Pepper, 2 Waters
ME: Taco Salad w/Ranch Dressing on the side
Eric: New York Steak w/Mashed Potatoes, Salad w/Ranch Dressing on the side, &
Vegetables
Punky: Classic Cheeseburger w/nothing but ketchup & Onion Rings
* The Spinach Artichoke Dip was really good. There was a decent amount of chips given and it
really was well prepared.
* Like I said before, the drinks were always filled and the water was very fresh. It wasn't bottled
water but it didn't taste like it came out of the hose.
* My Taco Salad... well, it wasn't that good. The meat wasn't burnt or under cooked. But, for
some reason it tasted like the mixture of the meat and salsa... it tasted like spaghetti sauce.
There wasn't much
lettuce on it, the re fried beans were not what I was expecting (I've usually
only had black beans in a taco salad), and it just was a huge spaghetti tasting mix of salad in a
huge fried taco shell.
* Eric liked his steak and potatoes. He said it was well cooked. It wasn't super exciting, but there
wasn't anything wrong with it. (The missing salad with his dinner was an issue though)
* Punky loved her burger. She is my carnivore. She said it was well cooked and very filling. The
mixup about the onion rings wasn't life ending. Once they brought them to her, she said they were great too!
